If you can toss and go, you can make this cake. Whenever I need a last minute dessert, this simple cake is one of my go to recipes to make. It is inexpensive to make and the ingredients areeasy to find. There isn’t anything complicated about this cake.

Lemon desserts is one of my favorite ways to enjoy lemon. It is a combination of sweet and tart that makes this dessert so delicious. This recipe is a must if you are a lemon lover along with Lemonade Pie.

What is a Dump Cake:

Adump cake is exactly how it sounds. You dump the dry ingredients and wet ingredients into the baking pan and bake.

No mixing bowls are needed. Add any type of pie filling to the bottom of the baking dish and then top with the cake mix, butter and cream cheese.

No mixing is required before baking. Once it is finish baking, then you dish a serving in a bowl and top with ice cream or whipped cream. It is just that easy.

Ingredients:

• Lemon Pie Filling
• Yellow Box Cake Mix
• Cream Cheese, diced into small pieces
• Butter, cut into thin slices
• Cool Whip

How to Make Lemon Dump Cake:

• Prepare oven and pan – First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. While the oven is preheating, get your 9×9 baking dish ready to go. Spray it with cooking spray and set aside.

• Layer pie filling and cake mix – Second, spread the lemon pie filling in the pan. Sprinkle half of the dry cake mix on top of the lemon pie filling.

• Layer with cream cheese – Next, put cream cheese pieces on top of the pie filling.

• Add rest of cake mix – Finally, top with the rest of the cake mix. Add the butter in a single layer all over the top of the cake. Try to cover as much as the cake as possible with the butter slices.

• Bake the Cake – Bake the cake and that is it! It normally takes between 35-40 minutes but oven times can vary. I like to use a toothpick inserted in the middle. If it comes out clean, it is ready.

• Serve and Enjoy – Let the cake cool a few minutes and enjoy. You can even top with lemon zest.

How to Serve Lemon Dump Cake with Cream Cheese:

• Whipped Cream – It is delicious served with cool whip. Since the cake is so easy and takes very little time, you might want to try this easy homemade whipped cream. It is so quick and easy and tastes rich and creamy.

• Ice Cream – Another idea to try is a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The lemon dump cake reminds me of cobbler so either whipped cream or ice cream would be delicious!

Variation ideas

• Change the Cake Mix – Use other types of cake mixes- lemon cake mix and white cake mix make delicious options.
• Pie filling– Use blueberry pie filling to make blueberry dump cake. This pairs well with lemon cake mix for lots of lemon and blueberry flavor. Strawberry pie filling is good as well.
• Lemon Curd – You can also add some lemon curd for extra lemon flavor or lemon pudding mix.

Can I Make Lemon Dump Cake ahead of time?

Lemon Dump Cake can be made up to 2 days in advance. Just refrigerate after baking and cooled to room temperature.

But since this recipe is so easy to make, I would recommend baking it when you are ready to serve.

Can I Switch a Lemon Cake Mix for the Yellow Cake Mix?

Yes, you can switch the cake mix to lemon cake or white cake mix. You will get the intense lemon flavor when using a lemon cake mix.

How to Store:

This lemon dump cake doesn’t last long in my house. Make sure to store in the refrigerator, covered with a plastic wrap. It will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
