First thing first…

What is Eggnog?

Eggnog is a creamy drink typically made with eggs (yes, you guessed it!), sugar, spices, and a base liquor of choice. The drink is mainly served around the Christmas holidays. Eggnog features prominently in all our most memorable Christmas movies (National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation anyone? Yes, that's eggnog in those Wally World cup).

Eggnogdrink is sold in most grocery stores but can be made at home using simple-to-follow recipes.

What is the History of Eggnog?

Eggnog’s origin is unclear, but the drink likely originated in England in the 17th Century.
The early settlers to America popularized the drink. The popularity of eggnog may be attributed to the availability of milk and eggs from the early settlers, primarily from farmers. Rum was also readily available from the sugarcane farms in the Caribbean.
The drink was so popular that George Washington had his recipe that he used to prepare eggnog for his Christmas guests!

Ingredients

To make the special egg nog, we will need the following ingredients.

  • 12 eggs
  • 3/4 cups of sugar
  • 1.5 cups of Buffalo Trace Bourbon
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • One tablespoon of grated nutmeg

Method

1. Separate the egg whites from the yolks in two different bowls
2. Add half of the sugar to the bowl containing egg whites and whisk until they turn white and frothy. You can use an electric beater set at medium speed to quicken the process.
3. In the bowl with the egg yolks, add the remaining sugar and whisk it until it dissolves.
4. Combine the two egg mixtures. To do this, you will want to fold the egg yolk mixture into the egg whites gently. Folding it in ensures that the egg white maintains the initial fluffiness.
5. Pour the Buffalo Trace Bourbon, milk, and half of the cream into the egg mixture and whisk or blend it.
6. Beat the remaining cream in a separate bowl until it is almost stiff.
7. Pour the whipped cream into the mixture, and your eggnog is ready for serving.
8. Transfer the eggnog to a serving bowl.
9. Refrigerate it, preferably overnight.
