Because you do need the fat to bind the flour and all other ingredients. And also to give that rich and yummy taste to your cookies.

However, with the price of everything going up nowadays, butter has become expensive too. It makes us want to improvise our cooking and baking venture, doesn’t it?

So we try to create similarly delicious food without spending extra on items like butter. Especially, when we can find a good substitute for it.

And if you really want that buttery flavor in your cookies, you can add a teaspoon of butter flavoring extract to your dough mixture.

The Equipment Needed

  • Mixing bowl.
  • Measuring cups.
  • Measuring spoons.
  • Sieve.
  • Wooden spoon.
  • Baking tray.
  • Parchment paper/ greaseproof paper.
  • Cooling rack.

How To Make Chocolate Chip Cookies Without Butter

Firstly, mix the oil with caster sugar, light soft brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir well until everything is nicely and smoothly combined.

Then, place the flour and baking soda in a bowl. Sieve the flour mixture into the oil mixture. Stir and mix everything until they all become dough.

Note that the dough may be slightly grainy due to caster sugar, but that is okay.

Cover the dough with food plastic wrap/ cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least two hours.

When you are ready to bake, preheat your oven to 180℃356℉ at gas mark 4 while you get your cookie dough ready.

Line your baking tray with parchment paper. Then, take your cookie out of the refrigerator.

Divide and shape the dough into small balls. I rolled them into a size ping pong ball.

Place the dough balls onto the lined baking tray well spaced apart, and bake them for about 15 minutes until they are lightly golden and firm to the touch.

When your chocolate chip cookies with no butter are fully baked, leave them on the tray for a minute or two before transferring them onto a cooling rack.

Can You Freeze The Cookies?

While you can not freeze the ready-baked cookies, you can keep the cookie dough in the freezer for about 2 months.

If you want to freeze it, you don’t need to refrigerate the dough beforehand. Once you finish making the dough, you can divide and shape it into small balls. Place them on a lined tray and freeze them for about 10 minutes. Then, put the frozen dough balls into a plastic food bag for the freezer.

And when you want to bake the cookies, take them out of the freezer and place them onto lined baking trays well spaced apart. Bake them at the gas mark 4/180℃356℉ for about 25-30 minutes. If you leave the frozen dough balls at room temperature to thaw first, you can bake them for about 15-20 minutes.
