The passing of a music icon, Daddy Lumba, has ignited a firestorm of controversy, revealing a deeply personal battle that spilled into the public eye. On November 18, 2025, the Kumasi High Court became the stage for a dramatic confrontation, as reported clashes erupted between supporters of Akosua Serwaa, Lumba's wife, and a man claiming to be the father of Odo Broni, allegedly Lumba's partner.
Reports indicate that the confrontation was triggered by comments made about Odo Broni, which reportedly angered her father. He then confronted one of Serwaa's supporters, who had allegedly stated that Odo Broni was not married to Lumba before his death.
But here's where it gets controversial... Following Lumba's death on July 26, 2025, a dispute arose over who should be recognized as the singer's spouse. Akosua Serwaa took legal action, claiming she was excluded from the funeral preparations. She accused the family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, of sidelining her, even learning the funeral date through social media.
Lumba's family responded, through a letter from Baba Jamal & Associates, asserting that Akosua Serwaa had no authority over the funeral arrangements. And this is the part most people miss... The family claimed Serwaa had returned her head drink in 2018, which, according to tradition, dissolved her marriage to Lumba. Based on this, they declared Odo Broni the legitimate widow, entitled to perform widowhood rites.
