Tigers' Mark Canha: Idle Wednesday
Rotowire
Canha isn't in the Tigers' lineup Wednesday against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Canha will get a day to regroup Wednesday after going 0-for-22 in his last six games. His absence will move Gio Urshela to first base while Matt Vierling (foot) covers third, opening up a spot in left field for Akil Baddoo.

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Getting Wednesday off
Rotowire
Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Rogers went 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Tuesday's series opener and will now take a seat against David Festa on Wednesday. Carson Kelly will instead start behind the plate and bat fourth.

Tigers' Keider Montero: Expected to get multiple turns
Rotowire
The Tigers recalled Montero from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Montero will draw the start Wednesday in Minnesota. While he's technically filling in for Jack Flaherty (back) on Wednesday, Montero will receive multiple turns as a replacement for Casey Mize (hamstring), per manager A.J. Hinch. Montero has allowed nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings with the Tigers this season and holds a 5.03 ERA and 54:30 K:BB across 48.1 frames for Toledo.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Lands on IL with strained hamstring
Rotowire
The Tigers placed Mize on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a strained left hamstring, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Mize tweaked his hamstring during Sunday's start against the Angels and subsequent testing revealed a strain. It's not clear what the grade of the strain is, but the Tigers anticipate the right-hander missing at least three starts. Keider Montero has taken Mize's spot on the roster and will start Wednesday in Minnesota, but the club will need an additional starter to fill in this weekend, as well, with Jack Flaherty (back) also missing a turn.

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Fans seven in quality start
Rotowire
Skubal came away with a no-decision Tuesday, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk over six innings as the Tigers fell 5-3 to the Twins. He struck out seven.
While he mostly kept traffic off the bases, a two-run double by Royce Lewis (groin) in the third inning and a solo shot by Manuel Margot in the fifth helped deny Skubal his 10th win of the year. The southpaw did collect his 12th quality start of the season, and he'll take a 2.45 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 119:20 K:BB through 103 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Cincinnati.

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Hits first 2024 home run
Rotowire
Kreidler went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Twins.
It was a rare display of power for Kreidler, who hit his first home run since the 2022 season. The utility man has been seeing more time at shortstop recently with Javier Baez (back) on the injured list, though Zach McKinstry has the slight edge in playing time at the moment. Neither player is a great offensive option, and fantasy managers can mostly look elsewhere, particularly with Baez beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday and likely back soon.

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Goes deep again Tuesday
Rotowire
Malloy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Twins.
Malloy is starting to settle in at the MLB level, as he blasted his fourth career home run and second in as many games. The rookie was batting .158 through his first 13 contests, but he's upped that to a more respectable .241 over his last 11 games. There's still room for improvement, though if Malloy can continue to display good power, fantasy managers will deal with a lower batting average.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Launches rehab assignment
Rotowire
Baez (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Baez has been out since June 11 while dealing with lumbar inflammation, but he now appears to be on the cusp of returning to the major-league roster. The shortstop will likely play in multiple games with Toledo before being activated from the 10-day injured list. Baez has struggled to a .183/.209/.247 slash line with one home run, 25 RBI, 15 runs scored and six stolen bases over 53 games this season, not providing much value to fantasy managers.

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Absent from starting nine
Rotowire
McKinstry is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
McKinstry continues to split shortstop work with Ryan Kreidler in the wake of Javier Baez's (back) injury. McKinstry is 4-for-29 (.138) since June 11.

Rotowire
Vierling (foot) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Minnesota, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Suffers setback
Rotowire
Carpenter (back) experienced discomfort Tuesday while completing his return-to-play progression, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Carpenter has been participating in baseball activities since June 21 and had been progressing well prior to enduring the setback. Carpenter will given some time off for rest and recovery before resuming baseball activities, all but guaranteeing he'll be out until after the All-Star break. Carpenter has been on the IL since May 29 due to lumbar spine inflammation.

Tigers' Keider Montero: Starting Wednesday
Rotowire
Montero will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start Wednesday in Minnesota, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Montero will be filling in for Jack Flaherty (back), who is having his turn skipped. The Tigers will also need an additional starter for later this week with Casey Mize (hamstring) headed to the 15-day injured list. Montero has permitted nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings for the Tigers in 2024.

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Skipping start this week
Rotowire
Flaherty will receive a second pain-killing injection in his back and will have his next start pushed back to next week, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Flaherty had been slated to start Wednesday in Minnesota but will be held back until next week for a home matchup against the Guardians. It's worrisome that Flaherty has now had two turns skipped over the last month with back problems, but it appears he will again avoid a stint on the injured list. Keider Montero will start Wednesday in Flaherty's place.

Tigers' Keider Montero: Joins Tigers in Minnesota
Rotowire
Montero has joined the Tigers in Minnesota and is expected to enter the rotation in place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring), Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
It's not known yet which day Montero will start, but he will join the rotation sometime this week while Mize misses some time. The right-hander has made two appearances with the Tigers this season -- one as a starter and one as a bulk reliever -- and has allowed nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

Tigers' Keider Montero: Likely candidate to sub for Mize
Rotowire
Montero is a likely candidate to start in place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) after the latter was scratched from a scheduled start Monday with Triple-A Toledo, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Mize is expected to land on the 15-day injured list with a strained hamstring, and it looks like Montero will be the choice to take his spot. Mize's next turn had been scheduled for Saturday in Cincinnati, although the Tigers could choose to alter the order of their rotation. Montero has made one start and one bulk-relief appearance for Detroit this season, allowing nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Likely headed to injured list
Rotowire
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said in an interview Tuesday that Mize (hamstring) is a likely candidate to be placed on the 15-day injured list, Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports.
Mize had to depart Sunday's start against the Angels with a left hamstring issue. While the initial hope was that he was merely dealing with a cramp, Hinch said Tuesday that it's more serious than that. Mize would be held out at least through the All-Star break if he is indeed placed on the IL. Matt Manning and Keider Montero are candidates to take Mize's spot in the Tigers' rotation.
