What is Whipped Cream?
Whipped cream is simply whipping cream that’s been whipped to incorporate air until it’s light, fluffy and airy. Homemade whipped cream consists of just one ingredient–the whipping cream.
Sweetened whipped cream has just two more ingredients–sugar and, if you would like, you can also add vanilla. Get the recipe here.
How to Make Whipped Cream
Chill a large bowl in the refrigerator until you’re ready to begin.
Pour one cup of heavy whipping cream into the bowl - our go-to is

Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer with a whisk attachment, beat on high speed, scraping the bowl a few times in-between until stiff peaks form, anywhere from 3-5 minutes. A stand mixer with the whisk attachment or a hand mixer work best for making whipped cream. You can whip cream by hand, but it will take about twice as long.
Storing and Making Whipped Cream Ahead of Time
You can make whipped cream up to four days in advance of when you plan to use it. Store it the refrigerator in a covered container. If the whipped cream starts to soften up, you can rewhip it into stiff peaks when you’re ready to serve. We do not recommend freezing whipped cream.
What to Do with Whipped Cream
Whipped cream can be used as a topping for a multitude of different recipes. Our Coconut Cream Pie or Homemade Sweet Potato Pie are perfect with a dollop of whipped cream on top. We also love whipped cream on Fudgy Dark Chocolate Brownies or Tres Leche Homemade Ice Cream.
