Tips For Making This Easy Valentine’s Day Craft

Even though I’ve got the steps written out below to make this Valentine’s Day craft, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • If you have them around, let the children help out. If it’s a team effort, especially if you’re making these for school, getting them engaged is learning mixed with fun. Little hands can help with measuring the ribbon, tracing circles, and cutting the fortunes.
  • Make a few extras because you’re going to need them. I mean that in a good way – these are going to be so popular.
  • Add your own fortunes. We added a few hand written ones for our daughter that were just little sentiments about her good behavior, kind words, and other attributes we want to remind her of.
  • If you have a Cricut or Silhouette, have the machines cut the felt circles. It will make the process go much faster if you’re making classroom Valentines.
  • To make a countdown to Valentine’s Day, hang these in between a simple felt heart garland like this one you make or buy. Everyone can open one a day starting on February first.

Materials

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Low temp Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Wire Cutters
  • Paper Trimmer

Instructions

  1. Trace four-inch circles on red, light pink, medium pink, and dark pink felt using a black marker. Cut out the circles with scissors and cut inside the traced line so that it looks nice and clean. Note: you can have your Cricut or Silhouette cut the felt circles, as well.
  2. Measure the craft wire and cut them a bit shorter than the 4-inch felt of the circles using the wire cutters. Cut the coordinating ribbons to match.
  3. Use the glue gun and glue the wires to the middle of the circles of felt. Add the ribbons on top so they are covering up the wires.
  4. Cut the white paper 1/2 inches wide with the paper trimmer or let the kids cut them out. Use the various marker colors and write funny or punny fortune cookie sayings on the paper. Or download and print out the free cookie sayings and cut them out with scissors or the trimmer.
  5. Put the fortune in the middle of each fortune cookie along the ribbon line and pop in a chocolate or candy . Fold the circle in half, using the wire as a guide. The ribbon should be on the inside of the cookie.
  6. Angle the sides towards one another and bend the wire at the halfway point. This should form the shape of the cookie. This also makes it easy to open and close the cookie.
  7. Repeat with different colors of felt and make as many as your classroom needs or make 14 to hang on a heart garland as a countdown to Valentine's Day.Make Felt Fortune Cookies for Valentine's Day Crafts or Classrooms (5)
