One North Carolina ice cream shop has been named one of the best in America and No. 1 in the state by the tasting experts at Reader’s Digest. So, if you’re looking to get some extra delicious ice cream this season, take note. Summer is the perfect time to get your ice cream on. Actually, ice cream is delicious any time of the year, but when it gets hot outside, of course it feels good to lick some cold, creamy ice cream.

Delicious North Carolina Ice Cream Praised by Reader’s Digest

The experts atReader’s Digest have a new feature out about the best ice cream shops in America. In the story, they note just a few reasons why ice cream is such a perfect dessert. “What other sweet treat appears at all your birthday parties and helps you through every breakup?” they write. “What other food will cool you down when it’s 90 degrees outside, or stop a hot slice of pie from burning your tongue?” I just think ice cream tastes good, so that’s enough for me. It’s also good for a breakup. Just saying.

Before we get to Reader’s Digest’s pick for the best and most delicious North Carolina ice cream shop, let’s look at the state’s most popular ice cream flavor. According to a new feature in Taste of Home magazine, North Carolina residents love Wolf Tracks. They note that Howling Cow Ice Cream is within the North Carolina State University campus, and one of its most popular flavors is Wolf Tracks, “which combines chocolate and vanilla ice cream, fudge chunks and mini peanut butter cups.” In South Carolina, the most popular flavor is Pay Day.

So, which North Carolina ice cream shop has been named the best in the state and one of the best in the country by Reader’s Digest? It’s Sunni Sky’s Homemade Ice Cream. This is a seasonal shop, so you can only get your fix when it’s the warm months. They also offer a whopping 125 ice cream flavors. So many choices. “Visitors love the options and taste, and the shop consistently gets fantastic reviews,” Reader’s Digest writes. “Intriguingly, there are a couple of flavors that consumers must sign a waiver to order: the Cold Sweat and the Exit Wound. Turns out, they’ve been given the moniker of spiciest ice cream by Adam Gertler on the Food Network, and they include habaneros, tai chilis, pecan peppers, even ghost chili sauce.” I’m happy to see this North Carolina spot getting some love. What’s your favorite local ice cream shop? Reach out to me and let me know.

You Should Probably Skip These Foods At A Breakfast Buffet

  • Eggs

Many establishments opt for powdered eggs instead of fresh ones, as it’s a cost-effective way to prepare large quantities of scrambled eggs to cater to numerous guests at once. However, powdered eggs cannot compare to the taste, texture, and color of their fresh counterparts. Another concern lies in the fact that these eggs are pre-cooked, which means they might sit at unsafe temperatures for extended periods.According to the FDA, serving eggs immediately after cooking is crucial to prevent foodborne illnesses. Unfortunately, in a buffet setting, it’s challenging to determine how long the eggs have been sitting out.

  • Fruit

Unless you witnessed the fruit being freshly prepared in the kitchen, it’s nearly impossible to gauge how long that eye-catching fruit display has been sitting there. According to the FDA, when fruits are cut, their protective skins are breached, leaving the flesh vulnerable to the surrounding environment and any potential bacteria. This creates two primary reasons that heighten the risk of contamination. Firstly, cutting the fruit makes its water content and nutrients readily available to microorganisms. Secondly, without any heating process, disease-causing germs aren’t eliminated, further contributing to the potential hazards of consuming cut fruits from a buffet display.

There’s a joy of pouring your own batter into a Belgian waffle maker, flipping it eagerly, and waiting for that gratifying green light before embellishing it with toppings. However, it’s best to exercise caution and avoid the waffle station. As per TikToker Brandi Augustus, a former hotel employee, the waffle batter served there is often old and sour. Instead of disposing of the old batter, new batter is mixed with it. It’s worth noting that not all places offering breakfast buffets adhere to this practice, but it’s wise to stay informed and make a decision based on the circ*mstances.
