She was born on June 18, 1933, in Bladen County, NC to the late Benjamin Franklin and Ila Daniel Jessup. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Almon Hill Carter and her brother Benjamin "Ben" Jessup. Mrs. Carter was an active member of Wallace Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served in various ministries in the church throughout the years as long as her health permitted.
