What is a service territory in Salesforce? ›

Service territories typically represent geographical areas where your team works, but they can also be functional territories such as field sales and field service.

Primary Territory: A field technician's “home patch”. This is where the majority of their work is carried out. Secondary Territory: A territory next to the primary territory, where the field technician sometimes has appointments.

Service Territory means the geographical area defined in the Company's Schedule of Rules, Regulations and Rates in which the Company is responsible for Gas service.

1. Primary territory: is an area that is owned, used exclusively, recognized by others, is controlled permanently, and becomes a major part of the daily activities of its inhabitants.

Territories organize groups of accounts, leads, and the Salesforce users who work with them. Territories are created based on territory types. The territory record shows assigned users, manually assigned records, the forecast manager, and rules that assign accounts automatically.

Territory Type

Territory types help you organize your territories by key characteristics important to your company. Every territory you create has a territory type. Territory types are used for organizing and creating territories only. They don't appear on territory model hierarchies.

A sales territory is a geographical area assigned to a sales team or a specific salesperson. It consists of existing and potential customers and allows your sales reps to focus on a single market. Common types of sales territories include cities, regions and countries.

Territory management in Salesforce lets enterprise businesses organize and manage their sales teams based on criteria like industry or geographic location. It helps large companies effectively allocate sales resources, assign accounts and opportunities, and track sales performance within defined territories.

If you're using Developer or Enterprise Edition, the maximum allocation is 1,000 territories per model. If you're using Performance Edition or Unlimited Edition, you can add up to 20,000 territories to a territory model by contacting Salesforce Customer Support.
