The veggie hot dog - IKEA Global (1)

Every year 680 million people enjoy the IKEA Food offer. We see it as both an opportunity and a responsibility to offer food that’s good for people’s health and the planet. IKEA customers can now enjoy a growing range of delicious plant-based alternatives, including non-dairy soft ice and the highly popular veggie balls. And now the latest arrival – the veggie hot dog.

Over 10 million sold

Since its 2018 launch, over 10 million IKEA veggie hot dogs have sold around the world – a great success for this more sustainable snack. In August 2020, the IKEA plant ball joined the veggie dog. It is also a tasty meat-free option for everyone. So far, every fifth HUVUDROLL sold (including meatballs, chicken, salmon and veggie balls) is a plant ball. That’s what we call a success!

Seven times less climate impact

Being plant-based, the veggie hot dog is a more sustainable option than its meat-based cousin. Its main raw ingredients are kale, lentils, quinoa, onions and wheat protein – all of which need less land and water than animal protein to grow. In fact, the overall climate impact of a veggie hot dog is approximately seven times less than that of a classic hot dog. Multiply that by 5 million and you start to see real impact.

The veggie hot dog has 7 x lower climate impact than the meat hot dog.

The plant ball has only 4% of the climate footprint of the iconic meat ball.

The veggie hot dog and plant ball are delicious choices for vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and anyone else who likes good food.
