The beverage industry as such includes the manufacture of various alcoholic drinks, as well as non-alcoholic ones and mineral water. Generating around 21.2 billion euros worth of total revenue in 2021, the industry employed close to 61.5 thousand people in the same year. Earnings are expected to grow in the next years. Forecasts predict that beverage manufacturing will bring in as much as 33.53 billion U.S. dollars worth of revenue in 2022.
While Germany is widely known both for its long-standing beer production industry, as well as seemingly active consumption habits, beer is not in the top three of the most bought beverages. Pils and export beer are overtaken by Cola drinks, caffeinated coffee and fruit juices. Beer consumption per capita has been dropping significantly compared to the 1970s and 1980s.

Mineral water, or Mineral Wasser as it's called in Germany, is the most popular drink in all of Germany – it is even more popular than beer or wine! In fact, it's the most commonly consumed drink in the country, surpassing still water in sales.
Although many Austrians, Germans, and German-speaking Swiss enjoy a good glass of wine or a lighter wine cooler (Schorle or Gespritzten, a mixture of sparkling water and wine), they consume far less wine than beer or even mineral water.
Germans are big fans of all types of juices (Säfte). The most popular juices are Orangensaft (Orange), Apfelsaft (Apple), Traubensaft (Grape) and Multivitaminsaft (Multivitamin juice).
Energy consumption: Germany is the largest energy consumer in Europe followed by France and the U.K. As of 2022, primary energy consumption amounted to 11,769 Petajoules, with more than 75% coming from fossil sources, as well as 17.2% from renewables and 3.2% from nuclear energy.
